There have been reports that Dixboro is plagued by a historic ghost. Issac van Woert swore in an affidavit that he had been visited by the ghost of Martha Mulholland in 1846. He claimed she told him that she had been murdered by a doctor at the will of her brother-in-law, James. She also told him that James had dumped another victim’s body in the township’s Frains Lake. The story was investigated, but didn’t lead to any arrest or findings. Nevertheless, the story has lived on as part of Dixboro history.
